Variety of Opportunities

Pretrial Services Officers form PSA’s largest occupational group. These individuals provide supervision services to individuals on pretrial release in the District of Columbia. However, to support the agency’s supervision function, PSA also employs a range of other positions including treatment professionals, social services resource specialists, counselors, drug testing technicians, statisticians, information technology specialists, and facilities managers. Wellness Works

Since 2016, PSA has made the Wellness Works Program available to all employees to encourage participation in fitness-related activities to enhance their personal wellbeing and to contribute to workforce productivity.  With supervisory approval, employees can take up to three (3) hours of administrative leave per week for participation in the program.  For information on the program and how to apply, review Policy Statement 4041, Wellness Works Program.

Child Care Subsidy

PSA offers a Child Care Subsidy Program to assist employees with the cost of child care services. PSA employees may be eligible when:

  • The employee’s total family income does not exceed an adjusted annual gross income of $93,180; and
  • The employee has a qualifying child or a qualifying child with a disability; and
  • The child or children are in a qualified daycare, home care, or before/after school care program.
     

Paid Parental Leave

Beginning October 1, 2020, paid parental leave may be granted in connection with a qualifying birth or placement (for adoption or foster care). The Federal Employee Paid Leave Act (FEPLA) makes paid parental leave available to certain categories of Federal civilian employees.  As a result, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provisions were amended in Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to provide up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave to covered Federal employees in connection with the birth or placement (for adoption or foster care) of a child occurring on or after October 1, 2020.

Flexible Work Schedules

The Alternative Work Schedule Program (AWS) is designed to allow employees flexibility in scheduling their tour of duty beyond the standard 5-day/8-hour workweek. With supervisory approval, PSA allows work flexibilities such as maxiflex, compressed, and gliding schedules so that employees can maximize their work-life balance.
