The Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory processes urine specimens for all of PSA and CSOSA.  This includes testing for the sentenced offender population as well as those under pretrial supervision.  Each sample is tested for three to seven drugs of abuse.  All positive samples are retested.  Toxicologists conduct levels analysis to determine drug concentration, gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry to confirm test results, and provide forensic consultations and court testimony.

The Lab is certified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is staffed by professionals with credentials in forensic toxicology, forensic science, medical technology, chemistry and biology.

The Lab also includes the Office of Forensic Research (Jerome Robinson, Director), which is responsible for basic research that leads directly to practical scientific enhancements for the Agency. The Office collects and analyses statistical data on subjects related to drug trends and drug abuse patterns; and distributes findings to the Agency and to the community. This often includes examining emerging drug problems particularly those that require unique analytical approaches not routinely done by the Laboratory. The office maintains partnerships with various scientific and law enforcement organizations for the cross pollination of ideas as well as the dissemination of critical time-sensitive information.
